If you are a LIPA customer who heats with electric, there is a phenomenal program to help lower your electric bills.
LIPA Home Performance Direct is a special program available to customers that heat their homes with either electric baseboards or heat pumps.
How it works:
Call the LIPA Energy Star Homes hotline at (877) E-STAR-LI (877-378-2754) and schedule a free HPD Energy audit. Be sure to request that Murtha Construction perform your audit so that you get the very best service!
On the day of your audit, our BPI accredited and LIPA trained crew will visit your home and perform a comprehensive home energy audit plus the following FREE services:
1. Install Compact fluorescent lighting.
2. Seal your A/C ductwork.
3. Seal your home from drafts.
4. Check that all ventilation is properly exhausted to the exterior of your home.
5. Computer model your home based on your specific usage pattern.
6. Develop a course of action to drastically improve your homes energy efficiency.
7. Provide you with a detailed report, on the spot, which identifies all suggested improvements.
At the end of the process (approximately 3 hours) we will provide you with a detailed list of all proposed measures, how much these measures cost, how much LIPA will pay (Typically 75% of the balance) and how much you will be responsible for.
In addition, Murtha Construction will allow you to assign the LIPA incentive directly to us, which means you only pay the approximately 25% you will be responsible for, and we will wait for the incentive check from LIPA to be paid in full!!
The typical home is saving the entire out of pocket cost of the project in 1-2 years.
Murtha Construction performs the audit, does all the work in house, and each and every project, from start to finish is under my direct supervision. It sounds too good to be true, but over 100 LIPA Customers have already taken advantage of this phenomenal deal!!

This old (or not so old) Wasteful House
American homes waste tons of Energy.
I once calculated that if every home in America had the RIGHT Energy audit, and implemented the measures recommended, the average home would save a conservative 20% on usage.
Such a reduction would be the equivalent of taking Australia off the worldwide energy grid completely.

Insulation as an afterthought....
What a MISTAKE!
Twenty years of Home Improvements and only doing insulation the right way the last 2. Unfortunately, insulation was always more of an afterthought rather than a critical aspect of homebuilding that required careful planning and expert installation. Indoor air quality, combustion safety, and properly sized and installed ventilation became robotic tasks, undeserving of the critical role they actually play in the health of a home.
Becoming a building scientist REVOLUTIONIZED the way my company and I think of building.
Experience doesn't matter, knowledge matters. No Home improvement project should take insulation, indoor air quality, comfort and safety issues as an afterthought.
Do it once, do it right, test in and test out.
